The Medical Office Assistant Program is designed to empower students with skills and knowledge that will increase their workplace competency and introduce the students to automated medical office software and health records. This balanced training program covers premier industry certification preparation for Medical Administrative Assistant certification and Billing and Coding Specialist certification. Students will have the knowledge to work within a medical office and update medical records using current insurance billing and coding standards. Knowledge of Microsoft Office computer technologies further advances the students capability in the office. Students also receive up-to-date training including a thorough an understanding of HIPAA compliance regulations, office administration, medical terminology, popular computer applications and recognizing diagnostic and procedural codes. Students will be taught the skills needed to work with codes and standards including, to but not limited to, demographics, medical history, medication and allergies, immunization status, laboratory test results, radiology images, and billing information to populate medical and health records. Medical practice, Customer Service, and Practice Finances are also included to provide a well-rounded robust education. The students will also have an understanding of insurance billing and coding needed for medical and health records. The student will have the skills needed to sit for the Medical Administrative Assistant certification and the Billing and Coding Specialist certification exams.

HP01-03- Medical Office Procedures and Management Introducing the Automated Medical Office
This course will enable the student to learn about the different aspects of the Medical Office at different settings. It will incorporate what is and what is not appropriate in the Medical Office settings. It will start with how to become a successful student and finish with the students having the option to take the Medical Administrative Assistant Certification.

HP05-Human Anatomy, Physiology, and Medical Terminology
This course prepares students with an understanding of the structure and function of the human body and the language of medical terminology. The meanings of these terms are described in the context of how the body works in health and disease. The complexity of the medical language is simplified to facilitate the students understanding, use, and appropriate context applications. Further, students learn to pronounce, spell, define, analyze, and discuss medical terminology related to disease, diagnosis, and treatment. Medical abbreviations are also included.
