Graphic Web Designer Program

Objectives:

The Graphic Web Designer program will focus on building proficiency in Internet Web Design to prepare students in basic internet business fundamentals, graphics fundamentals, and HTML fundamentals. Graphic design fundamentals will prepare students to be tested in their abilities in design methodology and visual communication. Throughout the program, we further strengthen student’s web and graphics skills by providing comprehensive training in the following courses: Windows, HTML, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft PowerPoint, Adobe Dreamweaver, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Flash. To round out the student’s knowledge, we apply the basics in visual communications to aid the student in assisting with creating graphics and marketing collateral for businesses or individuals alike.  This training will prepare the student for the exams necessary to become an Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) in Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Flash.  We have also included interactive computer lab time and hands-on web design projects, having students design and create a website from start to finish, further supporting the training experience and allowing them to see the results of their training.

NH103 Windows Level 1

This course will introduce the Windows 7 environment to students with little to no experience working with the Windows operating system. Students will be introduced to topics such as the start menu, the desktop, managing files, folders, and libraries, as well as options for customizing the Windows 7 environment.

Students will learn some of the more advanced techniques for working with the Windows 7 environment.  Topics such User Accounts and installing devices and printers, file management and protection techniques will be addressed. Students will also learn how to use utilities such as System Restore and configure networking in Windows 7.

NH123 Photoshop Level 1

In this course, students will learn about image copyright, identify the components of the Photoshop environment, learn about the differences between raster and vector graphics, and learn how to use Adobe Bridge. Students will explore various methods of selecting image areas and will learn how to modify and manipulate selections. In addition, students will learn how to work with text, layers, and layer effects; how to adjust, retouch, and resize images; and how to prepare images for printing and the Web.

NH124- Photoshop Level 2  

In this course, students will learn how to use color fills, gradients, patterns, and overlays. Students will also create layer masks, grayscale masks, and clipping masks to show or hide various parts of an image. Students will then learn how to create and edit paths and convert type to paths. In addition, students will learn how to apply a variety of creative effects, use the Vanishing Point feature and Smart Filters. Finally, students will learn how to work more efficiently in Photoshop.

In this course, students will learn more advanced techniques for working with paths, masks, fills, and strokes using Illustrator.

NH134  InDesign Level 1    

This course will teach students fundamental concepts, terminology, and the basic features of Adobe InDesign. Students will learn how to create documents, place text and graphics, and create custom color swatches. Students will also learn how to work with master pages and multi-page documents. In addition, students will learn how to format text, apply styles, work with threaded text frames, position and group objects, and work with layers. Finally, students will print documents, create print presets, create a PDF file, and package documents for commercial printing.

NH135 InDesign Level 2

This course builds on the fundamentals taught in InDesign Level 1.  Students will start by learning how to create complex document structures, create tint and gradient swatches, and use object libraries and snippets to work more efficiently. Students will then learn how to create vector paths and wrap type on a path. Students will also learn advanced typography and composition techniques. In addition, students will work with graphics, object styles, tables, special characters, and the Story Editor. Finally, students will learn how to manage long documents.

NH128 HTML Level 1

This course introduces web designers to the nuts and bolts of HTML (HyperText Markup Language), the programming language used to create web pages. The course explains what HTML is, how it’s structured, and presents the major tags and features of the language. Discover how to format text and lists, add images and flow text around them, link to other pages and sites, embed audio and video, and create HTML forms. Additional tutorials cover the new elements in HTML5, the latest version of HTML, and prepare you to start working with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). This course also helps designers and coders understand XHTML . Finally, this course is designed to quickly lead you through the steps of building an HTML website.

Students gain a deeper understanding of HTML and learn how to create richer, more meaningful web pages with structural tags and descriptive attributes. In this course, there is an overview of HTML and its development, defines the newest tags and attributes, and discusses how browsers parse and display HTML5 content. The course also includes step-by-step instructions for constructing an HTML5 document with a header and footer, navigation, content groups, and formatting.  An Overview of Web design and development techniques and technologies, fundamental concepts, terms, and best practices involved in professional web design. Popular web development tools, server-side software solutions, content management solutions, and cloud-based software, are reviewed, providing a high-level overview of the world of Web publishing.

This course is for students who want to learn how to use Dreamweaver to create and modify Web sites. Students will learn how to design pages with CSS, create and apply templates and server-side includes, and build accessible forms that validate user information. Students will also learn how to position elements and apply behaviors, add multimedia files, integrate XML-based data, transform XML with XSLT, and collaborate with other site developers.

This basic level course introduces the basic elements and features of Flash Professional so that students can begin creating Flash applications for delivery on the Web.

This course presents techniques for creating more complex Flash applications. Students will learn some basic principles of project management, discuss issues related to image use and copyrights, and learn how to plan a Flash application.

NH0002 Review and Lab Project – Web Site

This project calls for students to build a website, initially using Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 as a design tool.  Using Adobe Photoshop CS5 to develop a logo for the project site (and modify the graphics placed into the pages of the site).  Lastly, Creating a Flash animation to be incorporated into the site.  The entire project will be uploaded to a web server to become “live” (i.e., available to anyone with the web URL to the site).
